Karpeh’s work is broad and gestural, visually defining the tensions and complexities of the African diaspora. Her raw communication style creates a dynamic narrative between works. Highlighting memories and the mundane, Karpeh’s quality of painting brings new life with its own set of terms.

About the Artist:

“The current work I am exploring is acutely focused on unpacking the complexities of “double-conscience” as it relates to Western perceptions of “Black identity.” I comically highlight my first-generation Liberian American experience as a lens to which interrogate the oppressive nature of being straddled between two worlds; and most of all, the fight to create my own world.”
